The NightOwl Story
I've been playing music for over 50 years - it is the essence of who I am. I started as a classically trained brass player. Growing up in the 70's and 80's really changed my musical ambitions, and I picked up my first electric guitar when I was 18. Ever since, the electric guitar has been my conduit for self expression and an outlet for keeping my sanity, especially when life gets a little bumpy.

When I decided to get serious about playing guitar, I stepped up and bought a Kramer Focus, my first "real" guitar. It had a Floyd Rose tremolo too! I loved that guitar, but it seemed I was always fighting it. I remember getting so frustrated trying to fret notes because the action was so high - I would dig my fingers into the fretboard and grind the strings on the frets. I finally took it in to get a proper setup done. It didn't last very long and I was back to digging and grinding away.

That's when I decided to take matters into my own hands and become my own guitar tech. My arsenal of instruments has grown over the years, and I have personally modified most all of them to fit my personal playing style and tone preferences. I've even done a couple of custom builds. You can see more about my collection in the Gallery.

After 30+ years in a professional career outside of the music industry, it's time for me to dedicate my work time to my passion for guitars and the music they make. The goal of NightOwl GuitarWorks is to help other players avoid the same issues with playability that I experienced, so that they can focus on what really matters - playing guitar and making music.
